Preventions Strategy Through our prevention programs we support and promote healthy lifestyle choices, increase awareness of the impact of alcohol and other drugs on peoples lives and encourage community involvement and networking in prevention activities. Community Prevention Goals Encourage schools and communities events that foster personal growth and knowledge. Participate in events such as : • Dry grad • Parental Connection • National Addictions Awareness Week Encourage community wide awareness of addictions and its effects on the community as a whole. Out of the Ashes Bursary“Out of the Ashes” Bursary is a new Bursary and it is awarded to one or more students between the ages of 17 and 25 who have been in addiction recovery for at least one year. The student or students may be enrolled in a trade school, post secondary school or vocational training, once they have demonstrated their willingness to further their goals we will pay part or all of the tuition fees or perhaps part of the books or “tools of the trade” they may need to complete their courses. Hopefully this will encourage youth who are striving to get their life back together. Submissions can be made to the Prevention Coordinator from February to May 15th each year. A Decision on the sucessful applicant or applicants are made in June of that year.
Presentations The community Prevention Coordinator provides services to schools and communities. Activities, presentations, programs and special events assist in reducing the rate at which alcohol and other drug related programs develop.
