Job Summary:
Reporting to the program supervisor, the nurse is part of a multidisciplinary team, performing a variety of nursing and program related duties in a 20 bed residential detox. The position will involve shift work.                                       

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Screens and assesses clients for admission/non admission, entering information in the booking program as required.
· Admits clients to the detox and performs all related admission tasks.
· Reviews clients own medications at time of admission in compliance with the pharmacy policy.
· Administers medications to clients.
· Assists the attending physician as needed, processes Physicians orders, and consulting with physicians by telephone as needed.
· Does nightly review of all client files and kardex assuring there are no errors or omissions.
· Performs nursing procedures such as dressing changes, suture removal, as needed.
· Discharges clients and completes discharge summaries.
· Responsible for all activities within the building after 1530 until 0730 weekdays, 24 hours a day on weekends and statutory holidays.
· Responsible for calling in casual staff in the absence of the supervisor/assistant supervisor. The nurse will also call in extra detox staff when safety becomes a concern due to workload.
· Provides leadership in decision making around all client related issues.
· Documents client information accurately and in a timely fashion.
· Reports to the supervisor, any facility repairs needed or safety concerns observed, requiring attention.
· Delivers education and relaxation groups to detoxing clients.
· Provides recovery-planning opportunities to clients supporting their right to self-determination and arranging necessary referrals through consultation with supervisor/assistant supervisor.
· Assumes a leadership role in crisis situations requiring medical management, or behavioural management including fire safety procedures.
· Makes beds and does agency laundry.
· Assists with general cleaning of kitchen and client common areas.
· Attends staff meetings as able.
· Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
· Previous experience in nursing substance affected individuals.
· Previous experience in nursing individuals with mental health issues.
Professional Registration or License:                           
Registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse                       
Current CPR certification                                           
Skills and Abilities:
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Able to demonstrate a respectful, empathetic, non judgmental attitude to clients and colleagues.

 DETOX WORKER – CASUAL ON CALL


 Job Description:

The Residential Detox requires a casual on call detox worker.  Duties to include a wide range of services including: admissions/discharges, client assessments, program presentations, recovery planning and other related duties.

  • Equivalencies of education and experience will be considered.
  • General knowledge of substance abuse
  • CPR certification

Summary of duties:

 This is an on-call casual clerical posting to provide relief to various clerical positions. The successful individual will have excellent office and computing skills; and will be able to organize and update documents within computer databases as well as within a manual environment.  You must also possess strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to deal with the public in a consistently diplomatic and skillful manner.  Familiarity with detox management and drug withdrawal would be an asset as you will find you answer commonly asked questions from the public. You must have an exceptionally high level of personal maturity, and possess first-rate organization skills, flexibility, reliability and the ability to multi-task.

HOUSEKEEPING - CASUAL POSITION

 

Job Description

A casual on call position has become available in housekeeping.  The Housekeeping staff maintains the Phoenix Centre at an acceptable level of cleanliness and works with Detox to encourage the participation of clients in some of the routine housecleaning duties.  The housekeeping staff is responsible for inventorying all cleaning supplies and washroom products and advising the Supervisor when additional supplies need purchasing.     

 

Required Qualifications:

 Certificate relevant to institutional cleaning from a recognized educational institute

  • Grade 12
  • 2 years’ experience in institutional housekeeping

 Hours of work:  Casual on call

Salary:    As per BCGEU Community Sub sector agreement

Job Description:

Prepares foodstuff, cook and serve regularly scheduled meals.  Washes, dries and puts away kitchen utensils and dishes.  Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen appliances, counters and general area.  Performs related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

 Must have experience in institutional cooking with sound knowledge of nutritional requirements and be able to prepare and present meals that are nutritious and appetizing

Wage:  as per BCGEU Community Sub-Sector

Hours of work:  Relief/On-Call - 8 hrs per day
